The Problem: You made a face sculpt and it just looks really rough, uneven and there's a lot of surface irregularities?

This is by far one of the most common mistakes I've seen while teaching students how to sculpt faces & characters in general.

And there's only one reason why this happens.

It's because you go way too detailed too early on in the sculpting process.

In blender terms, you increase the remesh resolution on your sculpts before having a solid foundation to work on.

And if this sounds like something you've been doing, I can most likely guarantee that your sculpts don't look as good as you envision it in your head.

The One Step Solution: Take Pride in the Low Resolutions!

How to implement: This one is actually very simple to implement when your sculpting.

Here it is.

Don't increase the remesh resolution if you are not confident, happy & proud with how the low resolution sculpt looks.

If you sculpt doesn't look good from all angle in a lower resolution, don't increase the remesh resolution.

Going higher in resolution doesn't actually make anyone sculpt look better, it defines your already existing forms.

And if you have errors or issues with the forms at the low resolution, when you increase your resolution, it just amplifies/defines those issues

You get the point right?

Also, It's much easier to get the forms of your sculpt with a low resolution.

Finals Words: Solidify your forms at a low resolution, make sure you are happy with how the sculpt looks from all angles.

Once that's in place increase the resolution and define what you had from the lower resolutions.

You get the point right???
